South Forsyth’s JV Football squad scored two touchdowns literally a game apart to outlast a solid Milton squad at Milton and win the 2019 Region 5-7A title 14-12. Austin Uidell scored South’s first touchdown on the War Eagles’ opening drive and the two point conversion was good for an 8-0 lead that lasted most of the game. Both tams had multiple opportunities to score after that but stingy defenses thwarted those efforts. Milton quarterback Adam Frease overcame a twisted right ankle to lead the Eagles to two scores, the last with under two minutes to play in the forth quarter, but South Freshman quarterback Tigue Watkins used good field position from the ensuing kickoff return by Uidell to march the team down the field. The fifty yard drive ended with a six yard touchdown toss to Mason Capers with just 24 seconds left. The 2 point conversion failed but South held a 14-12 lead. What happened next surprised everybody. South performed and recovered an onside kick. Game over. The War Eagles took the victory formation and that was that. It was a fantastic football game at any level, and the War Eagles sit atop the Region 5 final standings once again. Listen to this classic here, and congratulations South Forsyth JV!!
