South Forsyth spent another Friday night in somebody else’s backyard, going back-and-forth on the scoreboard. The final result was a thrilling 35-31 victory for the War Eagles., Who won on the road for the third straight time to open the 2026 season. All three games have been thrillers, with any number of youngsters stepping up to make a difference. Offensively South is able to stay balanced as quarterback Khayel Sam Fong-Talia continues to play inspired football,  scoring three touchdowns on the night, two through the air and one on the ground that gives him 10 TDs in 3 games. The successful air attack has opened up running lanes, and Braydon Hammond took advanage for the other two touchdowns on the ground.   Kingston Herrod and Hudson Rogers and others are following some sharp linemmen who are fully grasping their sssignments, ande are taking advantage between the tackles. The 3-0 start matches six times the War Eagles have pulled that off, most recently in 2020. But this has a different flavor because of the addition of Fong-Talia and the emergence of a bunch of youngsters. Will Watkins and Carter Ross are looking for a nickname, and, Max Gold has a grip on the middle of the field.   Defensively, Ethan Owens, Landon Barber, Gabe Spencer, and Rogers are making plays all over the place.  One more thing,  Let’s not forget Senior Daniel Davidson.  The young man is a soccer player.  He was on the practice pitch when Thomson and a couple other football coaches stopped by  They explained they had started the season with two kickers but both have been injured.  So  SOFO Football was looking for some help from SOFO Soccer.  And they certainly got it.  Davidson hit five for five on extra point tries.  Welcome to football  Danny!     OK, I’ve got the replay for you right here. But first we have to discuss the events of the evening of September 5 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Y’all know what a huge Michigan fan I am.  Hell I was born at the UofM Hospital right there in AA. I sat there all night long feeling uncomfortable looking at those maize uniforms at home… that’s just wrong. But I thought we could be able to ignore it after the opening drive. Then all of a sudden it’s like the aliens came down and brainwashed all the players to make them forget how to play football cause they went out there and look like a bunch of amateurs.  (Which they were until a couple of years ago.) The most horrific moment for me was when Kyle Whittingham correctly decided to punt the football from midfield and  change the field position and stuff Western Michigan back under their own goal post and let the defense come to the front and change the complexion of the game.  Maybe they could… you gotta score that way,  and they did exactly that, the punt went to the 10 yard line. But then guess what?  FOUR STRAIGHT  first downs by Western Michigan and the ball is on Michigan‘s 35 yard line.  What?   Just horrific play on both sides of the ball.   South’s Nathan Efobi did not start for the Woolverines,  but played a lot.  e could not, however, be a difference maker on a very average UM Orfensive line.   a Having said all that regardless of how they got there Michigan was gifted an extra second.   The players couldn’t call that out, but they had to go out and execute something. I witnessed one of the coaches in one of the sideline shots talking to Underwood the Michigan quarterback, and he was using his hand in an arc and kind of looking up and you could see clearly what he was telling him was put some air under the ball and drop it right into the front of the end zone and dang it. Underwood did exactly that and he was getting hit right after he let the ball go;  there was a guy in his face coming in that wrapped him up just as soon as the ball got released, but it did not affect the throw and then JJ Buchanan!    HOLY MARY!!   here’s the picture.
Wow! Just wow! I don’t know where the quarterback battle is gonna go from here. Underwood was atrocious, especially for a $2 million a year quarterback. But if you can go find this guy a little more often, he shows he catches anything  within 10 yards of him. Oklahoma’s next  on Fox Big Noon Saturday and I’m bringing my umbrella. It’s gonna be raining Sooner points unless our defense can come up with a way to stop the run. Or just throw it up to Buchannon over and over again and turn it into a shootout. Ultimately, whether it was a gift second or not, the boys had to make the play, and they did. Go Blue!!! Win # 1022.

A note on the Crown ad – Becca recently enjoyed a weekend in Chicago with her mom to see BTS at the United Center.  Carol snapped this beautiful shot after the show.  I saw the opportunity, so there’s one for her portfolio.  No actual association with Seagram’s exists.  But it looks like a pro did it, thank you very much. All right, I suppose it’s taken long enough. It’s Todd Spencer on the call and Doug Thomas on color from the cool and roomy press box 80 steps above Buccaneer Fielld in Acworth.   Greg stayed home and put on his engineering hat. HERE’S THE REPLAY. https://forsyth-sports-365.mixlr.com/recordings/3203178 as for
