First of all, the evening started with a few lightning delays. Kickoff was an hour late. But here’s the story.
If you’re going to listen to this replay, you have to understand something. If you’re a Bronco fan, you’re going to love the first half. If you’re a War Eagle fan, you’re going to hate the first half. The Broncos punched one in with under a minute to go till halftime to take a 21 point lead. Now then the second half, if you’re a Broncos fan, you’re going to hate it. If you’re a War Eagle fan, you’re going to be overjoyed. Simply put, this was as an impressive a turnaround as we’ve ever seen. And we’ve got it all for you right here in the replay. As the South Forsyth commentators pointed out, the first half was extremely disappointing. Khayel Sam Fong – Talia, The super hyped Sophomore sensation quarterback for the War Eagles struggled to get it going. Oh, you say he’s just a sophomore. He’s still learning how to handle the bright lights. And yet on the other side of the ball, The Broncos started a freshman quarterback who had four throws over 35 yards in the first two drives. This helped open up the running game and with a three and out versus the war Eagles on their first possession, East jumped out to a 14 nothing lead. South scored to give a little hope. Then on the next drive, behind a sophomore quarterbackof their own, East had anothefr nice drive mixing the run annd pads,, resulted in another touchdown. South tried to bring it but an interception I gave the ball back to East, and they scored their last minute first half touchdown. Sam Fong-Talea’s passes were flat, many of them in the dirt, and he over through a couple of receivers down field. Nobody in the stands was booing, but you could tell there was a sense of here we go again up there. . That’s when the magic started. Word from the locker room was the coach really kept his composure. He didn’t scream and berate. He only spoke positive thoughts and told these guys we were gonna go out there and be a different team in the second half. What they decided to do in the second half was open things up a little bit. Just a little. Sam Fong-Talia responded. It’s our observation that maybe they were a little too controlling with him in the first half – dinks and dunks and trying to establish the run and East Forsyth would have none of it and shut them down again and again and again. But on that opening drive in the second half they let the kid throw the ball. Three long touchdown passes later and the ball game was tied. The long ball helped open up the running game which allowed south to control the football. And behind that offensive renewal, South found some defense. The War Eagles stomped a couple of three and outs and shut the Broncos out in the second half. 28-28 after three.
