Harrison Spencer was a bright light for South Forsyth football. His performance was on par with other great War Eagle receivers of the past. Camp. Pontrelli. Cruz. So when Harrison announced his commitment to Murray State, it was no surprise. But the story behind the story unveils a cast of characters that could pop up anywhere in America, but are genuinely, uniquely GeorgiaThe live podcast lasted two and a half hours, but was so compelling that it seemed to be over in minutes. Greg Golden and Doug Thomas showed why they are as good as anybody in the business at creating an environment for entertaining conversation, which is at the heart of talk radio. They do it in a way that makes guests comfortable so they can share their thoughts fearlessly, to the delight of those in the live crowd as well as those listening in at home or in the car or on the job. Radio is not dead, it’s just put on a fancy new suit.
The show has been spliced into sections in post-edit, and laid out for you chronologically. South Forsyth Head Coach James Thomson. The new boss of the War Eagles talks about coming from his role in the recruiting department at the University of South Florida, how he’ll help his players beyond the game, and on his regrets that he won’t have Harrison in his first year.
Tyrone Hopper “The Barber” Tyrone shares his story of his career as a stylist and his ascent to recruiting guru. He’s got a couple sons and a couple hundred kids he treats like sons who he’s helped get on a college rostef. One of them, son Tyniel Hopper, seen below wearing the 23 jersey chatting with Harrison, played at Boise State and Michigan Stste. His wife Jeanette is also a stylist at Cuts and Styles, and is like the team mom. she travels with Tyrone on recruiting trips regulaly.
Joining The Barber on this night are Jeanine, son Tyneil and Kamil Nuri, the friend who introduced Harrison to Tyrone.
Buck Belue The Georgia icon and close friend of the Spencers finished his second day as the new Prime Time host on 680 the Fan and raced up the 400 to arrive just in time because he wanted to say a few nice things about Harrison. Our conversation with Buck is twenty minutes of awesome.
Close Todd and Brigitte joined us at the end to help us close. There were lots of laughs and a few tears (Todd? Buck?) and some ooohs and ahhhs on the night.
