War Eagle’s Head Football Coach James Thomson coudn’t be prouder of his team after their win Friday at Duluth in the season opener for both teams. The Wildcats were looking for their 300th win all time, and had a chip on their shoulder after a couple of close losses last year. South threatened to run naway early , jumping out to a14-0 lead. Bu Duluth began to run the ball. They scored a TD but missed the extra point. They got the ball back and scored again but failed on a two point try. 14-12 South. Then Duluth forced another 3 and out.. Down the field they came, but South’s D would stiffen. Still the field goal gave the Cats the lead 15-14. The teams went backnd forth until, with a minute left, the big double move by Carter Ross, and the perfect throw from Kahyel Sam Fong-Talia. The toss, his 3rd TD of the game, plus 260 yards through the air, earned Fong-Talia Forsyth County News Player-of-the-Week honors in his debut. It is a sweet start for Coach Thomson and South, as the other five teams in Class 7A, Region 6, i.e. all 5 7A County rivals, West, North, Central, Denmark and Lambert, all lost. sO, FOR NOW, WE LEAD THE LEAGUE!

Here now, Coach Thomson with Doug Thomas, out on the Coaches Corner.
