Here is your Coaches Corner, a terrific chat with two Coaches who seem to be at the top of their game right now. In their visit with Doug Thomas, the Stadium Voice of the War Eagles, Head Coach James Thomson and Offensive co-ordinator Kordell “Slash” Stewart throw some thoughtful recognition to the great number of indivduals who are making plays all over the field. The Sophomore class, for example, gets a mention due to the number of ballers the class of ‘29 has blocking and tackling, running and throwing. A bunch of 15 and 16 year olds making a difference. It’s a refreshing position for War Eagle nation given the recent past. The juniors and seniors on the team lived and played through that. That experience fuels them. They’ve been given a second chance and they don’t want it to end. To keep it going, it will be another road test. Denmark, the War Eagles’ latter day nemesis, will be a tough out. The Danes are in the midst of an up and down season. They’re 3-3, and like South, they’ve traveled a bit. 1-1 at home, 2-2 on the road. They stumbled out of the gate, losing their opener to what we’re finding out is a strong Sequoiah squad 36-7. Head Coach Mike Palmieri, who took over for Terry Crowly six years ago, rallied the Danes to wins over Alpharetta and Campbell, scoring 38 points in each win. The next week they lost at 5A Cambrige in what’s become a rivalry game, 18-13. A 28-20 loss across the river at Peachtree Ridge, followed by a 45-9 thumping of Forsyth Central on the hill above City Center completed the three game road trip. The Danes come home to face the team they steal players from every year, with their season prertty much on the line. The coaches give you a look at Denmark’s personnel inside. Doug gives the GHSA ranking of all the Region 6, 7A teams in the Corner.
