Gainesville has a long, proud tradition of football excellence.  That excellence showed itself Friday night, Halloween Eve, as the Red Elephants brought a power game South Forsyth hadn’t seen yet this season.  Tipped balls turned into interceptions, twice the middle of the field opened right up for long touchdown runs, and the big plays that have driven the War Eagles all season were turned away.  The final score:  Gainesville 28  South Forsyth 14.   South had plenty of chances, but more often than not, by penalties or turnovers, they came away empty.  The War Eagles were intercepted three times in the red zone.  A SOFO interception on a third and looooong duck was snatched from the hands of the defender by an alert Gainesville receiver to give the Reds a first down in the red zone.  And perhaps the most galling turn of events was the sloppy performance by the officials.  The crew missed a clear fumble by the Gville quarterback, calling him down by contact when everybody in the stadium saw him lose the ball while mostly upright. Then they penalized the War Eagles with a personal foul and 15 yards for expressing disagreement.

And so on.

Here’s the replay of a long frustrating evening for the War Eagles as their dreams of a Region 6 7A Championship were dimmed by the reality of a physical and talented Region 6 leader.  Gainesville remains undefeated in the region at 3-0, South Forsyth falls to 1-2 in region play.

On a good note, this recording also includes the South Forsyth Homecoming halftime ceremony, hosted by Homecoming mascot Jeter the Dog and his owner Lynn Mallamace.   Jeter helps students get a little comfort everyday at the school.  Here are Lynn and Jeter with the Homecoming King Chan and Queen Esther.

And we hung around for the outstanding post game performance by the fabulous South Forsyth Marching Band.

The boys played hard.  Here you go.
