Milton hangs on to top West Forsyth 17-13.
Al Pacino used it in his legendary halftime speech in Any Given Sunday. ONE INCH! That’s football. Well, that one inch became the reality for West Forsyth Friday night. Trailing 17-13, The Comeback Kids had moved the ball to the Milton ten yard line with under two minutes left. A QB keeper from Zach Burns and two wildcat runs from receiver Ben Bresnehan put the ball on the Milton three, 4th and goal. The call was a beautifully executed misdirection that had everybody moving right except for Tight End Garrett Woodall to the left. The defense followed. Suddenly, QB Burns spun around and lofted a pass to the open man to his left. A bit long,Woodall dove and stretched and made the catch! At the one inch line. One inch shy of paydirt, one inch shy of victory. Taking the ball at their own one inch line, Milton got just enough from their offense to secure a first down with 50 seconds left to ice the game. The win puts Milton alone in second place in Region 5 Class 7A behind undefeated South Forsyth, which hammered Lambert in the Backyard Brawl. West drops to 4-2 and into a tie with North Forsyth for third. The top 4 teams in the region at the end of the year make the playoffs. It was an amazing game between two evenly matched, well coached teams, and worth a listen again. Catch the replay right here from Forsyth Sports 365.
