West Forsyth Senior forward Jenna Staiti led West to the program’s first-ever GHSA girls Sweet 16 quarterfinal round Friday night at West.  The University of Maryland signee added another 35-point outburst to her legacy as the Lady Wolverines thumped Newton 70-33. Staiti added 20 rebounds and seven blocks and teammate Jane Ortlip stepped up with 15 points, including three triples. Twenty-three of Staiti’s points, 16 of the rebounds and five of the blocks came in the first half as West Forsyth piled on a 40-13 edge.  West Head Coach David May and the Wolverines, 24-6 overall and 13-3 at home, advance to play neighbor Cherokee, 24-5 and 9-1 on the road, Friday Feb 26th at 3pm at West Forsyth.

On the Boys side, Lambert will try to make the Sweet 16 for the first time ever in hoops, LIVE TONIGHT RIGHT HERE ON FORSYTH SPORTS 365.COM. The opponent is Campbell (20-8), ranked #22 in the state among big schools.  The Spartans of Smyrna are coming off a 71-68 OT win over Tucker in their opening rounder.  They’re led by the Senior trio of guards Lazarus Walker (6′ 1″, 20 ppg/6 rpg, 26 vs Tucker), and Captain Mike Ohlmert (5′ 11″, 15 ppg/9 asst), and forward Randy McClure (6′ 4″, 11 ppg, 8 rpg).  Full court pressue on D and quickness make this team dangerous for the taller powerful Longhorns.  Coach Scott Brocca’s team is led by the 3 M-igos, Senior forwards Connor Mannion (6′ 8″, 22 ppg/8rpg, Navy commit) and Ross Morkem (6’7″, 12ppg/8rpg, UNG commit) and Junior point guard Andrew Melms (13ppg/6asst).  Catch all the action as Region 6 AAAAAA’s finest (27-2, 14-0 at home, 21-0 Region 6, jumped 10 spots to #38) play LIVE TONIGHT AT 6 from Lambert.
